PRINCIPE VALIENTE

Since the other day, when I posted a piece about Swedish group Torpedo, it seems the Swedish have taken an interest in this blog. That’s pretty great.

So here are another Swedish band, Principe Valiente. And it seems that Sweden is coming up with some excellent acts at the moment, however, Principe Valiente are completely different to fellow countrymen Torpedo.

This is a three piece that sound pretty fucking huge. Huge guitar licks roam, as well as massive synths and bass lines that cut through everything. It sounds like Interpol jamming with The Cult, and it’s pretty impressive. If I had to compare this band to an English band, it would unfortunately be White Lies. However, where some people might take that as an insult to Principe Valiente, I see it more of an insult to White Lies; this is how they should sound. After all, they are a three-piece too, but they come nowhere near in comparison to Principe Valiente. The single here, ‘The Night’, is a progressive piece of indie rock gold. It’s drenched in reverb, and it has intriguing soundscapes on every instrument. This is a band that should come to this country - they would definitely feel at home.

For more info on the group, visit: http://www.principevaliente.com/. They release their debut album on the 23rd of February via Parismusic Records. I’m not sure if it’s out here in the UK, but if it is, make sure you pick up a copy.
